Challenge

As Overture’s client population increasingly included individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, the organization sought a training solution that would: deepen caregiver understanding of the lived experience of dementia; improve communication and relational skills; and provide a scalable way to educate families, referral partners, and the broader community. Overture needed a program that moved beyond traditional instruction and created meaningful, experiential learning.

Results

By integrating Dementia Live® into onboarding and community outreach, Overture Home Care transformed how caregivers understood and delivered dementia care. In just one year, more than 1,500 individuals were trained, resulting in stronger caregiver confidence, improved family communication, increased employee engagement and retention, and expanded community referrals — including a new 24-hour care placement directly tied to a community education event.

The Challenge

As Overture’s client population increasingly included individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, the organization sought a training solution that would: deepen caregiver understanding of the lived experience of dementia; improve communication and relational skills; and provide a scalable way to educate families, referral partners, and the broader community. Overture needed a program that moved beyond traditional instruction and created meaningful, experiential learning.

Implementation

Overture integrated Dementia Live® into its twice-weekly onboarding for new caregivers and staff, as well as its extensive community outreach efforts. Over the course of one year, Overture trained more than 1,500 individuals—including caregivers, senior living staff, volunteers, church groups, and families. One notable event took place at a large Dallas church, where over 50 participants experienced the simulation and engaged in guided reflection facilitated by Overture’s certified coaches.

Measuring Success

Overture uses a combination of post-training evaluations, employee confidence surveys, client satisfaction tracking, and referral monitoring to assess the impact of Dementia Live®. These tools help quantify both the educational value and the organizational benefits of the program.

Impact & Outcomes

The partnership between AGE-u-cate and Overture Home Care has produced measurable and meaningful outcomes:

  • Caregivers report increased empathy, confidence, and ability to anticipate the needs of those living with dementia.

  • Overture reports stronger staff retention and engagement with caregivers feeling better prepared, more supported, and more connected to Overture’s mission, reducing burnout and strengthening longterm employment relationships.

  • Families express greater understanding of their loved ones’ experiences, leading to improved communication and reduced stress.

  • Overture strengthened its reputation as a leader in dementia education and expanded its referral network.

  • Community organizations and faith-based groups have continued to request Dementia Live® sessions due to the program’s lasting impact.

  • One community event directly resulted in a family referral for 24-hour care, demonstrating the program’s ability to connect families with needed support.
