Challenge

Page Robbins Adult Day Center serves individuals living with memory loss and their care partners with compassion and creativity. As part of their commitment to dementia-inclusive care, they faced the challenge of helping staff, volunteers, family members, and community partners truly grasp what it’s like to live with cognitive decline. They needed an experiential, accessible way to deepen empathy, reduce stigma, and empower caregivers with greater understanding—beyond what traditional training could offer.

Results

Through the Dementia Live® program, Page Robbins transformed the way their staff, families, and broader community understand and support people living with memory loss. The immersive training deepened empathy among caregivers, enhanced confidence across their care team, and became a powerful outreach tool to connect with local hospitals, neurology clinics, and faith communities. It also opened doors for educating future healthcare professionals, while elevating the center’s visibility as a trusted leader in dementia care. The ripple effect? More meaningful relationships, better-informed caregivers, and a stronger network of support surrounding their families.

About Page Robbins Adult Day Center

Page Robbins Adult Day Center is dedicated to providing quality care and services for individuals with dementia. The center focuses on creating a safe and engaging environment for its clients while also supporting their families and caregivers.

The Challenge

Page Robbins Adult Day Center faced the challenge of differentiating itself in a competitive landscape filled with numerous adult day centers and alternative care options. They needed to deepen their community partnerships and improve caregiver empathy towards dementia to stand out and provide superior care for their clients.

The Solution

In 2023, Page Robbins decided to implement the Dementia Live® experiential training program from AGE-u-cate Training Institute. This decision was influenced by a board member who had experienced the impact of Dementia Live firsthand. The program allows staff, caregivers, and local professionals to temporarily 'step into the shoes' of someone living with dementia. Sheri Wammack, Program Director/Social Worker, stated, 'Dementia Live has been a great tool to educate employees, family caregivers, and the community. The staff at AGE-u-cate have been wonderful to work with – very encouraging and supportive.' The immersive training sessions are led by certified in-house coaches, including a nurse trainer, and facilitate emotional 'aha moments' for participants, enhancing their understanding and empathy.

The Results

The implementation of Dementia Live® has yielded significant outcomes for Page Robbins. In less than 2 years, they trained over 200 individuals including staff, caregivers, church members, hospital teams, and local nursing students. This training has fostered person-centered care practices and provided new tools to educate the broader community. Page Robbins successfully built referral pipelines with local hospitals, neurology offices, and churches, increased community engagement and brand visibility, and supported education for future healthcare workers. Overall, the program is improving caregiver empathy and effectiveness across their organization, solidifying Page Robbins' reputation as a leader in dementia care.
