Challenge
Tri-County Technical College, a public, two-year community and technical college serving Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties in South Carolina, enrolls more than 9,000 students annually and offers more than 70 major fields of study. Its I-BEST program needed a practical, engaging, and workforce-relevant way to prepare students to care for individuals with cognitive disorders. The program sought an educational solution that would build students’ caregiving confidence and enhance their employment readiness.
Results
By incorporating AGE-u-cate’s 1-hour Compassionate Touch® Caregiver course into its curriculum, Tri-County Technical College equipped I-BEST students with real-world caregiving skills. Students earned certificates of completion, applied hands-on techniques, and increased their marketability for entry into the workforce.

About TCTC
Tri-County Technical College, located in South Carolina, offers accessible and career-focused education. Its I-BEST (Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training) program helps students earn credentials while developing essential workplace competencies. The program serves students preparing for careers in healthcare and human services. The Challenge
The I-BEST program serves diverse learners—many of whom are preparing for caregiving roles without previous healthcare experience. These students needed more than textbook knowledge: they needed practical skills to support people living with cognitive decline, including Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The college sought a fast, high-impact program that would integrate easily into their curriculum and validate students' caregiving abilities.
The Solution
Tri-County Technical College selected the Compassionate Touch® Caregiver online course from AGE-u-cate Training Institute. This 1-hour, self-paced training provides foundational knowledge on how to build trust, reduce anxiety, and improve communication with individuals living with dementia through simple, respectful touch techniques.
To date, 110 students have completed the course, earned a digital certificate, written a reflection on their learning, and demonstrated the Compassionate Touch® technique in an out-of-class activity—ensuring both comprehension and real-world skill application. The course remains an active and valued part of the I-BEST program curriculum.
"This course helped me understand how to connect with people I care for—not just physically, but emotionally. It gave me tools I’ll use from here on out."
